The Personnel department is headed by Chief Personnel Officer (CPO) in the Railway Zone. The major areas of concern of Personnel Department are Human Resource Development, Manpower planning and Staff welfare.
Personnel Department is responsible for recruitment, training, placement, payment of salary/ wage and other benefits/incentives, transfer, promotion, demotions, settlement and pensions of all kinds of railway employees. Grievance redressal of employees & pensioners and setting up & maintenance of welfare activities are also spearheaded by Personnel Department. Guidance on Disciplinary matters is also provided by Personnel Dept. in cases of Disciplinary and Appeal Rules of Indian Railways. Other prime activity of this department is maintaining healthy and cordial Industrial Relations by engaging Trade Unions constructively.
